(CNA, reporter Chang Chien-chung, Hsinchu, July 8) Wafer foundry UMC (United Microelectronics Corporation) went ex-dividend today, distributing NT$2.60808262 in cash dividends per share. The stock price jumped to fill the dividend on opening, with major shareholder Silicon Integrated Systems (SiS) estimating NT$695 million in dividends to be received.

UMC's cash dividends for last year were ex-dividend today, and the stock price performed strongly, opening at NT$156, up NT$3.5, in a "fill the dividend on opening" scenario.

UMC's total cash dividend is NT$32.704 billion, to be distributed on July 30. SiS holds 266 million shares of UMC, estimating NT$695 million to be received, contributing approximately NT$1.35 to earnings per share.

UMC's dividends have been the main source of SiS's profits in previous years. SiS has recently acquired G-Pro Semiconductor and Holtek, with its core business profits improving. In April this year, it further acquired Xiamen SMIC, which will inject new growth momentum into its operations. (Editor: Chang Liang-chih) 1150708
