(Central News Agency, reporter Zhang Qi, Hualien County, July 8) The main entrance of the DPP Hualien County Headquarters was egged by an unidentified individual around 6 p.m. yesterday. After receiving the report, the police identified a 33-year-old man surnamed Li as the prime suspect and summoned him for questioning. Li claimed he had a political argument with his brother and threw the egg in a fit of pique. Following police interrogation, he was referred to prosecutors on charges of intimidation.
Chen Jing-feng, chairman of the DPP Hualien County Headquarters, stated that it was after work hours and the main entrance of the party headquarters had already been closed. Around 6 p.m., a neighbor called to inform him that an egg had been thrown at the entrance. After reviewing surveillance footage, it was discovered that a man dressed entirely in black rode an electric scooter to the entrance, threw the egg, and then rode away.
Chen Jing-feng mentioned that after inquiring with party members, none of them recognized the man who threw the egg. The case was handed over to the police for investigation and clarification after a report was filed.
The Hualien Police Precinct explained today that within three hours of receiving the report, they identified a 33-year-old man surnamed Li from Hualien City as the prime suspect.
Li confessed that he had a dispute with his brother over differing political stances. He was challenged with "If you have the guts, go throw an egg at the party headquarters," and in a fit of pique, he rode his scooter to throw one egg. Following police interrogation, he was transferred to the Hualien District Prosecutors Office on charges of intimidation. (Editor: Li Heng-shan) 1150708
