(Central News Agency, Taipei, July 8) Currently, the opening time for odd-lot trading in the Taiwan stock market is 9:10 AM, which differs from the 9 AM opening for whole lots. Legislators have inquired why the adjustment to trading hours will not be implemented until July of next year. Lin Hsiu-ming, Chairman of the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE), stated today that the opening time for odd-lot trading will be moved forward to 9 AM and can be implemented by the end of this year.

At the end of April this year, the Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) mentioned that it had requested the TWSE and the GreTai Securities Market (GTSM) to conduct a comprehensive review of odd-lot trading enhancements. The trading hours for intraday odd-lot transactions are expected to be moved forward to open at 9 AM, with the earliest implementation by the end of July next year.

The Finance Committee of the Legislative Yuan reviewed the Central Deposit Insurance Corporation, the Financial Supervisory and Management Fund, and the Insurance Business Development Fund, which are under the purview of the FSC, and invited FSC Chairman Peng Chin-lung to attend and respond to inquiries. Kuo Kuo-wen, a legislator from the Democratic Progressive Party, expressed concern about why the opening time for odd-lot trading in the Taiwan stock market is being moved from 9:10 AM to 9 AM, and why it will take more than a year to implement.

Lin Hsiu-ming stated that the opening time for odd-lot trading will be moved forward from 9:10 AM to 9 AM, and it can be implemented by the end of this year.

FSC Chairman Peng Chin-lung stated that, as previously mentioned, adjustments to the trading system involve many investors and market participants. If any steps are missed, many problems will arise. He emphasized that the FSC "will not be slow when it can be fast." (Editor: Yang Lan-hsuan) 1150708
