(Penghu, Taiwan News) July 8 - Kuomintang (KMT) Chairwoman Cheng Li-wen visited Penghu today to preside over a mobile standing committee meeting, urging unity for Penghu's sake and to "put aside self-interest for the greater good," hoping for a grand slam in the year-end elections in Penghu.
The KMT's mobile standing committee meeting was held in Penghu today, attended by Cheng Li-wen, Vice Chairman Lee Chien-lung, and several standing committee members. The party announced the nomination of Hung Tung-lin to run for Magong mayor and rallied support for the KMT's nominated Penghu County Magistrate candidate Chen Chen-chung and others. Lin Ping-kun, chairman of the Non-Party Alliance, also appeared at the venue to support Chen Chen-chung.
In addition to hoping for a grand slam in the year-end elections in Penghu, Cheng Li-wen also presented certificates to all the party's group leaders, fully supporting the promotion of the advanced "Party Affairs 2.0" initiative.
In a discussion with nominated and drafted candidates before the standing committee meeting, Cheng Li-wen stated that issues concerning the allocation of block grants, transportation between Taiwan and Penghu, the island's ferry "Nanhai No. 3," and the mini-three-links all involve legal amendments. She urged attending standing committee members and the legislative caucus to propose amendments soon to ensure Penghu becomes prosperous and well-connected in the future.
Cheng Li-wen said that in the face of the year-end local elections, it is essential to "unite" for Penghu, put aside self-interest, win all votes, and work together for Penghu to achieve a grand slam victory and make Penghu better.
When asked by reporters about a party member's resignation due to alleged unfair party nomination procedures, Cheng Li-wen did not respond.
The KMT's mobile standing committee meeting also announced the nominations for various positions: Chen Chen-chung for Penghu County Magistrate, Lu Chun-tien for Husi Township Mayor, Tsai Yueh-chiao for Wang-an Township Mayor, and Hung Tung-lin drafted for Magong Mayor. For County Councilors, the nominated candidates are Chen Yu-jen, Lu Kuang-yu, Chuang Kuang-ta, Wu Cheng-chieh, Hsu Yu-kai, Hsu Chia-chun, Chang Jen-ho, and Hsu Kuo-cheng was drafted. All appeared today to seek support.
Regarding the Democratic Progressive Party's (DPP) candidate for Penghu County Magistrate, the originally nominated incumbent, Chen Kuang-fu, suffered a severe head injury from a fall in February and remains hospitalized.
