(CNA, Taipei, July 8) Taiwan's medical diplomacy is shining in the Pacific islands. Shin Kong Hospital has been deeply involved in Palau for over a decade, assisting 8,000 individuals in seeking medical treatment in Taiwan and supporting medical rescue efforts for the Mini Pacific Games. The hospital has signed a sustainability MOU with E.SUN Bank, aiming to export its financial prescription influence internationally.
Shin Kong Hospital and E.SUN Bank officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on sustainable medical cooperation today. Centered around "Building Green Hospitals and Deepening Social Well-being," the collaboration aims to create a new model of healthcare that balances quality care with environmental friendliness through pioneering cross-sector cooperation between finance and healthcare.
The sustainability medical MOU signed between Shin Kong Hospital and E.SUN Bank will focus on three core and most significant collaborative highlights: pioneering carbon reduction in smart healthcare, deepening elderly protection in Shilin, and expanding diplomatic efforts in Palau, the Pacific, thereby creating a sustainable front for "international humanitarian medical care."
During the signing ceremony this morning, Shin Kong Hospital Superintendent Hou Sheng-mao humorously praised E.SUN Bank for its precise vision of "green sustainability" demonstrated even in its uniform design. He emphasized that Shin Kong Hospital, as the first medical institution in Taiwan to sign an MOU with the Taiwan Sustainable Energy Research Foundation, has already trained three cohorts of ESG sustainability managers and continues to promote green transformation in hospital operations through regular internal discussions.
Shin Kong Hospital has been deeply involved with Palau, a Pacific ally, for many years. Since 2013, it has assisted over 8,000 Palauan citizens in seeking medical treatment in Taiwan. The hospital not only continuously dispatches physicians for consultations and trains local medical professionals but also supports medical rescue efforts for the Mini Pacific Games, making it a key driver of Taiwan's medical diplomacy.
Shin Kong Hospital Vice Superintendent Hung Tzu-jen stated that future cooperation can combine Shin Kong Hospital's soft power in clinical medicine with E.SUN Bank's global resources to jointly establish an international ESG sustainable care program. E.SUN Bank will sponsor or co-participate in Shin Kong Hospital's medical aid in Palau, simultaneously exporting Taiwan's financial and medical influence internationally.
Regarding the deepening of elderly protection in Shilin, Hung Tzu-jen mentioned that Shin Kong Hospital has organized over 280 health lectures and screenings in the Shilin area over the past year. It also provides round-the-clock meal delivery and home care services for elderly individuals living alone. Since its inception on May 10, 1999, it has served 216,667 individuals.
Hung Tzu-jen added that future cooperation will link Shin Kong Hospital's "meal delivery and home care for elderly living alone" with E.SUN Bank's "financial security support for the elderly and those with dementia." First-line meal delivery volunteers will identify financial risks early when caring for elderly individuals or those with dementia, seamlessly connecting them to E.SUN Bank for fraud protection and elder care trust services.
