(CNA, Taipei, July 8) The Central Weather Administration predicts that Super Typhoon Bavi will be closest to Taiwan on the 10th and 11th. President Lai Ching-te, who also serves as the Chairman of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), instructed today that all public office candidates should prioritize disaster prevention and relief, actively participate in local disaster prevention and care assistance efforts, and adjust or postpone all campaign itineraries and activities accordingly.

The DPP held its Central Standing Committee meeting this afternoon. Lai Ching-te mentioned at the meeting that according to the forecast from the Central Weather Administration, Super Typhoon Bavi will approach Taiwan on the 10th. Regardless of whether the typhoon's center makes landfall, the 10th and 11th will be the period when the typhoon has the most severe impact on Taiwan.

Lai Ching-te stated that the Executive Yuan has already tasked relevant ministries and agencies with completing all typhoon preparedness work and maintaining close contact with all local governments to implement drainage, disaster prevention, and various response mechanisms, minimizing the potential damage caused by the typhoon.

He requested all party officials and local service teams to fully cooperate with the government's typhoon prevention operations, strengthen the dissemination of the latest weather information to the public, remind fellow citizens to make early preparations for typhoon-proofing their homes, and work together to protect lives and property.

Lai Ching-te also asked all public office candidates to prioritize disaster prevention and relief in response to the potential impact of the typhoon on their localities, actively participate in local disaster prevention and care assistance efforts, stand with the people, and overcome the typhoon challenge together. All campaign itineraries and activities should be adjusted or postponed in a timely manner in accordance with the announcements of local governments and actual weather conditions.
