TAIPEI (CNA) - As Typhoon Bavi gradually approaches Taiwan, the Maritime and Port Bureau announced that all ferry services in the eastern region will be suspended from this afternoon (July 8) until July 11. The Keelung-Matsu route will be suspended from July 9 to July 11. Passengers are urged to utilize today's and tomorrow's sailings to return to the mainland and to postpone trips to outlying islands to avoid potential delays due to subsequent flight cancellations.

The Central Weather Administration stated that if Typhoon Bavi follows its current predicted path, a marine typhoon warning will be issued as early as tomorrow daytime, followed by a land typhoon warning late tomorrow night to early on the 10th.

The Ministry of Transportation and Communications' Maritime and Port Bureau issued a notice detailing the suspension of maritime passenger routes between the main island and outlying islands. In the eastern region, all services will be suspended from this afternoon until July 11. The status of sailings on July 12 will be re-evaluated based on sea and weather conditions.

Regarding the northern region, the Maritime and Port Bureau indicated that the Keelung-Matsu route will operate normally today from Keelung to Matsu. However, it will be suspended from July 9 to July 11, with normal operations expected to resume on July 12.

In the southern region, the Maritime and Port Bureau stated that the Kaohsiung-Penghu route's scheduled July 10th sailing has been moved forward to 11:00 AM on July 9th. Sailings on July 10th and 12th will be suspended, with no sailings on July 11th. The Budai-Penghu route will have some sailings moved forward on July 9th and will be fully suspended from July 10th to 11th. The Donggang-Hsinpu route will have some sailings suspended on July 9th and will be fully suspended from July 10th to 11th. The Yanpu-Hsinpu route will be fully suspended from July 9th to 11th.

The Maritime and Port Bureau urges passengers to take advantage of today's and tomorrow's sailings to return to the mainland and to postpone trips to outlying islands to avoid potential delays due to subsequent flight cancellations.
