(Central News Agency, reporter Yang Sirui, Tainan, July 8) As Typhoon Bavi approaches, the Southern Region Water Resources Branch of the Water Resources Agency, Ministry of Economic Affairs, is on alert. The storage rate of Zengwen Reservoir under its jurisdiction is currently about 67%. Dynamic adjustment of reservoir operation strategies will be implemented to reserve necessary flood storage space and maximize water resource storage under the premise of reservoir safety.
Chen Bo-tsung, deputy director of the Nanhua Branch, told CNA reporters that before the flood season, safety inspections, re-inspections, and flood prevention drills for all facilities had been completed to ensure normal operation of all facilities and equipment. During the flood season, in addition to strengthening the inspection and testing of facilities and equipment, meteorological intelligence and rainfall forecast data will continue to be monitored, and operation strategies for all reservoirs and barrages will be developed and refined.
Chen Bo-tsung stated that Zengwen Reservoir, managed by the Nanhua Branch, primarily supplies water to the Chiayi and Tainan regions, with a current storage rate of 67%. Mudan Reservoir, primarily supplying water to the southern Pingtung region, has a current storage rate of 83%. During the typhoon period, reservoir operation strategies will be dynamically adjusted based on the typhoon's path and rainfall forecasts to reserve necessary flood storage space in the reservoirs, thereby reducing the burden on downstream river channels during the typhoon. Under the premise of reservoir safety, efforts will be made to maximize water resource storage.
Chen Bo-tsung pointed out that in response to potential high turbidity in the Gaoping River, the Nanhua-Gaoping inter-basin water transfer pipeline and the infiltration well are prepared for contingency. Backup measures such as increased supply from Chengcing Lake, drought-resistant wells, and reverse flow from Fengshan Reservoir are also in place to ensure stable water supply.
The Nanhua Branch observed the water storage status of major reservoirs in the Tainan area at 5 p.m. Zengwen Reservoir has a water volume of 305.17 million cubic meters, with a storage rate of approximately 67%. The interconnected Wushantou Reservoir has a water storage volume of 55.33 million cubic meters, with a storage rate of approximately 70%. Nanhua Reservoir has a water storage volume of 80.37 million cubic meters, with a storage rate of approximately 98%. (Editor: Li Shu-hua) 1150708
