(CNA Reporter Yeh Su-ping Taipei, July 8) The Central Weather Administration predicts that Typhoon Bavi will be closest to Taiwan on July 10 and 11. President Lai Ching-te said today that the administrative team is continuously monitoring the typhoon's movements, the Ministry of National Defense has completed preparations based on the principle of "proactive deployment and pre-positioned forces," and is maintaining contact with local governments to deploy rescue efforts as needed based on disaster situations, in order to fully protect the lives and property of the people.
President Lai posted on Facebook stating that Typhoon Bavi is approaching, and will have the most severe impact on Friday and Saturday (July 10 and 11). He urged everyone to prepare for the typhoon.
He said that the administrative team is continuously monitoring the typhoon's movements, and the Ministry of National Defense has completed relevant preparations based on the principle of "proactive deployment and pre-positioned forces." They are maintaining contact with local governments and will deploy rescue efforts as needed based on disaster situations, in order to fully protect the lives and property of the people.
President Lai said that in the face of potential disasters, everyone should remain vigilant and confirm their disaster preparedness plans. He asked the public to check their "disaster preparedness kits" at home to ensure sufficient supplies of non-perishable food, drinking water, flashlights, and essential medications.
He also reminded the public not to go to mountainous areas during the typhoon, nor to approach the coast to watch waves or play in the water. He urged everyone to closely follow the latest information from the Central Emergency Operation Center, the National Fire Agency, and other relevant authorities, and to stay aware of wind, rain, and disaster conditions at all times.
