(Central News Agency, Yunlin County, July 8) As Typhoon Bavi approaches, the Yunlin County Water Resources Department estimates that the impact will be greatest on July 11 and 12, with potential for heavy rain and strong gusts. The county government has completed the pre-positioning of large mobile water pumps and prepared 6,000 sandbags for deployment by township and city offices based on flood control needs.

Ye Zhi-jun, a forecaster at the Central Weather Administration, stated at a weather briefing this morning that if Bavi follows its current predicted path, a marine typhoon warning could be issued as early as tomorrow daytime, followed by a land typhoon warning from tomorrow night to early morning on July 10. The outer circulation of the typhoon will begin to affect the island from tomorrow evening, with increasing rainfall in the windward areas of Taoyuan and north, and Yilan.

Xu Hong-bo, director of the Yunlin County Water Resources Department, said that the impact on Yunlin is expected to be significant on July 11 and 12, with potential for heavy rain and strong gusts. Inspections and trial runs of the county's pumping stations have been completed, and pre-drainage operations for detention basins and forebays will be carried out in advance to increase storage capacity. Simultaneously, efforts are being made to clear drainage bottlenecks and manage tide gates to maintain drainage functions and enhance overall flood control response capabilities.

In addition, 366 large mobile water pumps have been pre-positioned, prepared, and functionally tested, with pre-positioning completed in flood-prone areas reported by township and city offices. Furthermore, 6,000 sandbags have been prepared and placed at the Douliu Water Resources Center, Taixi Haikou Pumping Station, and Shuilin Tuchuan Pumping Station for deployment by township and city offices based on flood control needs. Also available are 4,265 flood control barriers and 10,000 bulk bags, stored at locations such as Citong Wuhua, Kouhu Boziliao, and Taixi Wengang.

The Yunlin County Water Resources Department indicated that the county government continues to build a smart water monitoring system, which currently includes 144 water level stations, 7 rainfall stations, 252 video surveillance stations, and 149 road inundation sensors. Through water monitoring equipment combined with cloud platforms, the Internet of Things, and AI intelligent analysis technology, the system provides real-time monitoring of rainfall, water levels, and inundation conditions within its jurisdiction, improving disaster warning and emergency response efficiency.

The Yunlin County Government reminds the public to pay close attention to the latest weather information from the Central Weather Administration during the typhoon period and to avoid dangerous areas such as the seaside, rivers, streams, and mountainous regions. Residents in low-lying areas are advised to check their drainage facilities in advance and prepare flood control supplies to collectively prepare for the typhoon. (Editor: Hsiao Po-wen) 1150708
