Hong Kong Book Fair Disqualifies Bookstore, Yulin Bookstore to Cease Operations

(CNA Taipei, July 8) According to Hong Kong media reports, Yulin Bookstore, an independent bookstore in Hong Kong that was recently disqualified from participating in the Hong Kong Book Fair, announced today on social media that its store lease will expire in April next year, and it will "honorably end" its operations. The store is currently holding a major sale.

Yulin Bookstore stated that it has participated in the book fair every year since its opening in 1997, but "unfortunately could not enter as scheduled this year." New books have been arriving at the store, and they look forward to book lovers visiting to find treasures. Yulin Bookstore is located in Mong Kok.

According to Ming Pao News Network, when asked if the closure of the store was due to being rejected from participating in the book fair, the person in charge of Yulin Bookstore only said that the bookstore is currently holding a sale and promotion, and suggested that reporters refer to the online announcement, temporarily not responding to other matters.

The annual Hong Kong Book Fair will be held in mid-July. Independent bookstores Logos Book Store and Yulin Bookstore, which have participated for many consecutive years, were disqualified by the organizer, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council. In recent years, there have been multiple incidents at the Hong Kong Book Fair where exhibitors were asked to remove books or were disqualified from participating.

According to Ming Pao, Logos Book Store in Mong Kok also announced a 48th-anniversary sale on Facebook recently.
