(Central News Agency Reporter Su Chih-yu Taipei, July 8) The TSG Hawks defeated the Wei Chuan Dragons 2-1 today, with starting pitcher Huang Tzu-peng achieving 27.2 consecutive scoreless innings, marking the 6th longest streak for a local pitcher in Chinese Professional Baseball history. He has a chance to challenge Pan Wei-lun's record in his next start.
Huang Tzu-peng has become a stable local starting pitcher for the Hawks in his first year with the team. Although he faced crises in the first 5 innings today, he managed to keep his slate clean. In the 6th inning, he gave up 3 hits and was removed with 2 outs and the bases loaded. However, reliever Li Hsin-ying successfully struck out the batter to freeze the runners and preserve Huang Tzu-peng's scoreless streak.
Huang Tzu-peng, who had 22 consecutive scoreless innings in June, pitched 5.2 scoreless innings in his first start in July, surpassing Liu Hsuan-ta of the Uni-President 7-ELEVEn Lions' 27.1 innings and rising to 6th place for local pitchers in consecutive scoreless innings. The top record for a local pitcher is Pan Wei-lun of the Lions with 33 consecutive scoreless innings spanning the 2005 and 2006 seasons.
The Hawks' offense scored first in the top of the 6th inning with a timely hit from Steven Moya. In the top of the 7th, Chen Wen-chieh and Kuo Fu-lin strung together 2 hits to add another run. In the bottom of the 9th, Huang Chun came in to pitch and gave up 1 run, but still held on for the victory. (Editor: Li Shu-hua) 1150708
