(CNA Taipei, July 9) Ukrainian officials stated that Russia launched ballistic missiles at the capital Kyiv overnight and deployed jet-powered drones to harass the city throughout the day today, resulting in at least 3 deaths. Russia is intensifying its attacks amid a severe shortage of U.S.-made interceptors in Ukraine.

Reuters reported that these attacks occurred as NATO leaders were holding a summit in Ankara, Turkey. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with U.S. President Trump during the summit to discuss the possibility of Ukraine obtaining authorization to produce interceptor missiles.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko stated on the messaging app Telegram that one wave of Russian drones attacked a 25-story building this afternoon.

Klitschko added that in addition to the 3 deaths, the attack also injured 13 people, two of whom sustained serious injuries. One child was among the 13 injured.

Reuters witnesses reported hearing consecutive explosions in Kyiv overnight before air raid sirens sounded.

Two warehouses caught fire after being attacked, and firefighters have been continuously using ladder trucks to extinguish the flames since early this morning.

A senior Ukrainian local official stated that Russia launched an attack on the Black Sea port city of Odesa later today, killing 4 people and injuring 6. Odesa, as Ukraine's most important port, has repeatedly been a target of Russian attacks during the 4-year war.

The Russian-backed administrator of the occupied Kherson region in Ukraine said a Ukrainian drone hit a medical station outside a hospital in the town of Ivanivka, killing 1 staff member.

Reuters could not independently verify the claims of both sides regarding the combat situation.

According to Ukrainian Air Force data, Russia deployed 169 drones overnight. While Ukraine's air defense systems intercepted 139 of them, none of Russia's 5 ballistic missiles were shot down. (Intern Editor: Lu Shih-ting / Reviewer: Liu Wen-yu) 1150709
