TAIPEI (CNA) - Taiwan's Kabaddi beauty Chen Shih-han has been selected for the Asian Games national team for the first time this year. She jokingly calls herself a "crybaby" but has finally fulfilled her dream of becoming a national player, exclaiming it's unbelievable and hoping to help the team on the field.
Chen Shih-han, who is about to start her second year at the National Taitung University Department of Physical Education, received the Presidential Education Award upon her graduation from Haixing High School in Hualien in 2025. Her parents divorced when she was young, and her mother raised three children alone. However, Chen Shih-han never caused her mother worry and has now been selected as an Asian Games national player.
Chen Shih-han revealed that in elementary school, she focused on playing the recorder and singing in the choir. She also played the piano to accompany church services. However, in junior high school, driven by curiosity and the fact that her school had a Kabaddi team, she stepped into a new world of sports.
Chen Shih-han recalled: "On my first night training session after joining Kabaddi, I went with the school team to push an extremely heavy tire. I was as thin as a stick back then, and I never thought I could endure it."
Successfully becoming a new face on this year's Asian Games women's Kabaddi representative team, Chen Shih-han still finds it unbelievable. She laughed and said: "I remember helping to film a Kabaddi promotional video in junior high school. I foolishly said I wanted to be a national player and bring glory to the country. I never imagined it would actually come true now."
Chen Shih-han also jokingly calls herself a "crybaby." Whether it's not practicing well enough or having shortcomings she can't overcome, she tends to cry.
Head coach Tsai Wei-yang also shared a small story. Two weeks ago, the Japanese women's Kabaddi team came to the National Sports Training Center for joint training. During practice, a Japanese player accidentally injured Chen Shih-han's left ankle. The Japanese player felt very apologetic, specially went to a temple to get a peace charm, and recited a message in Chinese. Unexpectedly, Chen Shih-han cried uncontrollably.
Tsai Wei-yang emphasized that Chen Shih-han has a lot of talent, "but she cries too much, which sometimes affects her performance on the field." Therefore, they are now specifically training her mentality, hoping she can become stronger. (Edited by Long Po-an) 1150709
