(Central News Agency, reporter Zhang Qi, Hualien County, July 9) In response to potential heavy rainfall from Typhoon Bavi, the Forestry and Conservation Administration, Hualien Branch Office has introduced the latest second-generation submersible buoy water level gauges from Japan. Deployment was completed this morning, initiating 24-hour monitoring. Coupled with existing monitoring equipment, this will provide more timely and precise tracking of water level changes in the lake area.
The Forestry and Conservation Administration, Agriculture and Food Agency, Executive Yuan, Hualien Branch Office issued a press release stating that with the assistance of the Disaster Prevention Research Center of National Cheng Kung University, the latest second-generation submersible buoy water level gauges were urgently imported from Japan. After arriving at Taoyuan Airport yesterday afternoon, they were immediately transported to Hualien. Following coordination with the National Airborne Service Corps of the Ministry of the Interior, special forces, and the Disaster Prevention Research Center of NCKU, the deployment operation was jointly completed at 7:20 AM today and monitoring was immediately activated.
The Hualien Branch Office stated that in conjunction with existing monitoring equipment, two sets of high-precision water level monitoring devices have now been established in the lake area. Operating 24 hours a day via satellite communication, they automatically transmit water level data every 10 minutes. This allows for cross-comparison of monitoring results, enhancing data reliability and system redundancy. It will assist disaster prevention units in grasping real-time changes in the lake area and provide a basis for emergency response decisions.
According to the latest monitoring data, as of 8:00 AM today, the Wanli Stream barrier lake has a maximum storage capacity of approximately 5.1 million cubic meters. The current water storage is about 3.56 million cubic meters, with a storage rate of 69.8%. The lake surface water level is at an elevation of approximately 1076 meters.
The Hualien Branch Office stated that aerial patrols conducted around 7:00 AM today, compared to yesterday's images, show that the lake area's water level continues to rise steadily. There have been no significant changes in the barrier lake's dam body or overall topography, and no abnormal conditions such as seepage from the dam body have been observed. The overall situation remains stable. (Editor: Guan Zhong-wei) 1150709
