(CNA, Taoyuan, July 9) The Taoyuan Metro Green Line extension, which will connect Taoyuan's Guishan District to New Taipei City's Huilong, has received central government approval for its comprehensive plan. Preliminary work commenced today to preemptively address obstacles for the main construction phase. The project is expected to take 270 days and will involve adjustments to roads, sidewalks, and other public facilities.
The Taoyuan Metro Green Line extension will be approximately 11.38 kilometers long, with a total of 7 stations, including 5 underground and 2 elevated stations. The comprehensive plan for the extension has been approved by the central government, with a total budget of approximately NT$45.6 billion. The Taoyuan City Government, drawing on its experience from the construction of the existing Green Line, initiated the preliminary work today.
Taoyuan Mayor Chang San-cheng, attending the "Taoyuan Metro Green Line (Taoyuan-Guishan-Huilong Section) Preliminary Work Commencement Ceremony" in Guishan District this morning, stated that the Green Line extension is crucial for enhancing transportation development in the Taoyuan and Guishan areas. It will effectively shorten travel time to and from the Taipei metropolitan area and represents a significant milestone in Taoyuan's transportation construction.
Chang San-cheng added that the preliminary work commencing today will prioritize adjustments to roads, sidewalks, street trees, and existing public facilities. This aims to minimize the impact on the lives and traffic of surrounding residents during the main construction period. The Green Line extension will later extend to the City Government's Second Administrative Park and connect with other metro lines such as the Orange Line.
The Taoyuan City Government's Department of Rapid Transit Systems stated that the Green Line extension route starts from Taoyuan Station, passes through Taoyuan District and Guishan District, and connects to the Huilong area in New Taipei City. Along the route, it will pass by Longhua University of Science and Technology and the Taoyuan Arena.
The Department of Rapid Transit Systems said that once the Green Line extension is operational, travel time from Taoyuan Station to Huilong Station will be approximately 18 minutes. It will also connect with the railway network, including the Taiwan Railways Administration, the existing Green Line, the Airport MRT, the Tamsui-Xinyi Line, and the Wanda Line, thereby strengthening transportation links between Taoyuan and the Taipei metropolitan area.
The Department of Rapid Transit Systems also mentioned that the scope of the preliminary work for the Green Line extension spans from station BR02 to BR08, with a construction period of 270 days. This phase will involve clearing and leveling arcades along the route, demolishing the Jishè Overpass pedestrian bridge, and transplanting vegetation, laying the foundation for subsequent main construction.
