Taipei, July 9 (CNA) Typhoon Bavi is gradually approaching the sea north of Taiwan, and China is also on high alert. The China Meteorological Administration issued an orange typhoon alert for Bavi at 10 a.m. today, predicting that Bavi will make landfall between Fuqing, Fujian and Wenling, Zhejiang on the evening of the 11th. The Chinese authorities also assessed that Bavi is approaching with great force, and after landfall, "the disaster risk is high, and the flood control situation is severe and complex."
China's official natural disaster warning system is graded from red, orange, yellow, to blue, with red being the most severe and orange the second most severe. It is expected that as Bavi gradually approaches the Chinese mainland, the aforementioned typhoon alert may be upgraded to a red alert.
According to CCTV News, the China Meteorological Administration predicts that Bavi will move northwest at a speed of 15 to 20 kilometers per hour, gradually approaching the sea northeast of Taiwan. On the afternoon of the 11th, after passing the coast north of Taiwan, it will enter the coast from central Fujian to southern Zhejiang, and will make landfall on the evening of the 11th along the coast between Fuqing, Fujian and Wenling, Zhejiang.
The China Meteorological Administration also predicts that the maximum wind speed near the center of Bavi when it makes landfall on the Chinese coast will decrease to 38 to 45 meters per second. After landfall, it will continue to move northwest into inland China, and its intensity will gradually weaken.
Prior to this, the China National Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters decided on the evening of the 8th to initiate a Level 4 emergency response for flood and typhoon control for Zhejiang and Fujian provinces, and stated that the emergency response level will be adjusted according to the development of Typhoon Bavi.
On the evening of the 8th, the office of the China National Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters convened a consultation with multiple official units specifically for the arrival of Bavi. In addition to describing Bavi as approaching with great force, it was stated that Bavi may continue to move north after making landfall in China on the 11th, and "the disaster risk is high, and the flood control situation is severe and complex." To this end, Fujian Province has requested its fishing vessels to return to port to take shelter and has evacuated personnel working at sea. (Editor: Chiu Kuo-chiang / Chou Hui-ying) ying) 1150709
