The New Taipei City Public Library's Wugu Shou-Rang Hall will launch its 'Summer Light Journey' event starting July 18, inviting travel writers for lectures and showcasing themed suitcases of authors such as Sanmao and Haruki Murakami, encouraging the public to put down their smartphones and explore the world through reading. Free registration opens tomorrow.

Wu Chia-shan, Director of the New Taipei City Public Library, stated that reading is the most cost-effective form of travel, offering boundless imagination. From July 18 to August 31, Wugu Shou-Rang Hall will host 'Summer Light Journey: Departing from Books,' featuring six programs: literary lectures, picture books, films, seasonal experiences, themed exhibitions, and a reading book fair. Registration is free and available from July 14 on the library's official website.

According to the press release, travel writer Snow will share her pilgrimage journey to Tibet during a literary lecture on August 1. On August 30, travel writer Blue Sandal, who once spent 300,000 NTD traveling across 13 countries in a year, will speak about finding healing power through travel.

From July 18 to August 30, the 'Writers' Suitcase Exhibition' will display themed suitcases of four authors: Sanmao, Ernest Hemingway, Haruki Murakami, and Jimmy Liao. Through representative works such as 'Stories of the Sahara,' 'The Old Man and the Sea,' 'Norwegian Wood,' and 'The Subway,' along with actual travel items, the exhibition reveals the travel stories behind literary creations.

The library announced that the 'Light and Shadow Journey' travel film series will screen 'Roman Holiday' on August 1, 'Classroom in the Clouds' and 'Let's Go on Pilgrimage' on August 2, 'The Bookstore at the Corner' on August 23, and 'Solo Traveler' on August 30, taking audiences on cinematic journeys to Italy, France, Bhutan, and beyond. Branch libraries across Wugu District will simultaneously host a themed book exhibition titled 'The World Within the Pages,' featuring a curated selection of travel literature, world cultures, and urban essays, allowing visitors to travel the world through reading.
