NTU Hospital Yunlin Branch is set to construct a long-term care teaching building, but reports have emerged about a funding shortfall. The Ministry of Education announced late this evening that, considering the hospital's role as Yunlin County's only severe-level emergency care responsibility hospital, it will fully cover the funding gap of approximately NT$908 million.
The hospital held a progress briefing and gratitude press conference today for the long-term care teaching building project. Some media outlets reported a remaining funding gap of NT$908 million and questioned whether the Ministry of Education had allocated any budget support.
The Ministry denied rumors of 'no budget allocation' in an evening press release. It stated that Legislative Councilor Liu Chien-kuo invited Deputy Minister of Education Liu Kuo-wei to inspect the project site on the 9th of this month, during which Deputy Minister Liu conveyed the positions of Premier Cho Jung-tai and Minister of Education Cheng Ying-yao. The Ministry will support the university's plan and cover the approximate NT$908 million funding gap upon approval of the public construction project.
The Ministry emphasized that NTU Hospital Yunlin Branch is Yunlin County's only severe-level emergency care responsibility hospital and is also designated for pandemic and hazardous chemical disaster response. The central government has committed to covering the NT$908 million funding gap through public construction programs. Combined with the NT$400 million subsidy from the Ministry of Health and Welfare, central funding now accounts for nearly 50% of the total project cost, demonstrating the government's strong commitment to elderly healthcare and long-term care development in Yunlin.
Following administrative approval by the Executive Yuan, the Ministry will urge NTU Hospital to strengthen integration of aging research resources, enhance critical care capacity in the Changnan-Yun-Chia region, and establish local long-term care teaching talent training mechanisms to promote practical implementation of long-term care industries in Yunlin County.
