Man Rides Motorcycle for 2 Days, Sexually Harasses 5 Women in Chiayi County and City; Chiayi Prosecutors Detain and Indict

(CNA reporter Huang Kuo-chang, Chiayi, June 13) A man surnamed Hsu from Chiayi County has been charged with riding a motorcycle and randomly assaulting five women by groping their chests and buttocks over two consecutive days in May. Most incidents occurred when he pretended to ask for directions or targeted women waiting at red lights who were unable to react in time.

According to the indictment filed by the Chiayi District Prosecutors Office, the 63-year-old Hsu rode his motorcycle past a community center in Taibao City, Chiayi County, on the morning of May 20. He deliberately approached a woman who was focused on pushing a wheelchair to care for an elderly person and reached out to grope her chest. When the victim shouted at him, Hsu followed her on his motorcycle and again attempted to seize her arm and grope her buttocks.

The prosecutors stated that on May 21, Hsu sexually harassed four women within two hours. First, he blocked a woman in an alley on Zhongshan Road in Chiayi City and forcibly groped her chest. Later, at the intersection of Xinsheng Road and Jiabei Street, he groped a female motorcyclist’s chest multiple times while she was stopped at a red light, and then groped her buttocks at the next intersection’s turning waiting zone.

Prosecutors explained that Hsu later pretended to ask for directions from another female motorcyclist stopped at a red light near Beigang Road, but instead slid his hand from her shoulder down to her waist, buttocks, and thighs. Over ten minutes later, near his residence, he approached a female homeowner under the pretext of asking for the location of a hospital. While she was focused on giving directions, he rubbed his arm against her chest and groped her chest and buttocks.

After the incidents, all five female victims reported the assaults to the police. Authorities immediately reviewed surveillance footage along the routes and arrested Hsu. Due to concerns that he may repeatedly commit similar offenses, prosecutors applied for and obtained pre-trial detention from the Chiayi District Court. (Editor: Chen Jen-hua) 1150713
