Central News Agency Report
(Central News Agency reporter Huang Kuo-chang, Chiayi County, April 13) A violent altercation among Vietnamese migrant workers in Liujiao Township, Chiayi County, resulted in the death of a male worker surnamed Nguyen, who was stabbed in the back during a drunken brawl. Despite being rushed to hospital, he was pronounced dead. Police arrested three suspects, including the alleged assailant Nguyen, and after questioning, transferred them to prosecutors on suspicion of murder.
The Puzi Precinct of the Chiayi County Police Department released a press statement stating that they received a report in the early hours of the morning about a fight involving Vietnamese migrant workers in Suchiao Village, Liujiao Township. Officers arrived promptly to find a male worker surnamed Nguyen bleeding heavily from stab wounds to the upper left back and right shoulder. He was transported to hospital but later declared dead.
Initial police investigations revealed that the deceased Nguyen had traveled to Chiayi with three fellow villagers to drink with other Vietnamese workers. A verbal dispute escalated into physical violence. A migrant worker from Chiayi was first attacked with a hammer by a worker from Tainan. Upon learning of the assault, the victim’s brother, another worker surnamed Nguyen, became enraged, retrieved a knife from his workplace, and chased and stabbed the Tainan-based Nguyen, who later died.
Police reviewed surveillance footage from the area and apprehended the knife-wielding suspect and two other involved workers. Three knives and one hammer were seized at the scene as evidence. Authorities are continuing to clarify the full circumstances. After questioning, all suspects were transferred to the Chiayi District Prosecutors Office on suspicion of murder.
