(Central News Agency reporter Tsai Meng-yu, Kaohsiung, June 13) The '2026 Kaohsiung Milk Tea Festival,' organized by the Kaohsiung City Government's Tourism Bureau, will be held in September. This year's event is set in the Yancheng commercial district, integrating the milk tea festival with local promotion efforts. Over 70 milk tea and gourmet brands are expected to gather, inviting visitors to enjoy rich milk tea while exploring alleyway delicacies and historic neighborhoods.

The Kaohsiung Tourism Bureau announced today that the '2026 Kaohsiung Milk Tea Festival' will take place on September 19 and 20 at Exit 1 of Yanchengpu MRT Station. The event is expected to bring together more than 70 milk tea and food vendors, featuring interactive games for families and live music performances on stage, creating an autumn carnival that blends culinary delights, cultural experiences, and tourism appeal.

Tourism Bureau Director Kao Min-lin stated that according to Ministry of Finance statistics, as of the end of 2025, Taiwan had 15,969 hand-shaken beverage shops, with Kaohsiung accounting for 3,043—ranking first nationwide and representing nearly one-fifth of the total. In 2025, Kaohsiung's hand-shaken drink sales exceeded NT$8.9 billion, demonstrating the city's strong tea beverage industry foundation.

Kao pointed out that previous editions of the Kaohsiung Milk Tea Festival have attracted tens of thousands of tourists and milk tea enthusiasts, boosting local business and establishing Kaohsiung’s image as a milk tea destination. This year’s event, held in the Yancheng commercial district, will link with surrounding specialty stores and district resources, continuing to drive urban tourism and local economic growth through food-centric campaigns.

Kao emphasized that Yancheng not only boasts rich cultural and historical heritage but is also a key hub for classic Kaohsiung cuisine, hosting numerous Michelin Bib Gourmand recommended and listed restaurants. This year’s festival will jointly promote the milk tea event and the Yancheng district, inviting the public to savor creamy milk tea while discovering hidden alleyway eateries and historic streetscapes.

The Tourism Bureau stated that applications are now open until July 24 for unique milk tea and food brands across Taiwan to participate. Vendors are encouraged to join. Application details can be found via the online form (https://forms.gle/XmnRip5hgwgxxMi37). (Edited by Huang Ming-hsi) 1150713
