70-Year-Old Man Arrested in Ximending After Stealing 40 Lottery Tickets from Disabled Vendor

(CNA reporter Huang Li-yun, Taipei, 13th) Last night in Ximending, Taipei, a disabled man selling lottery tickets had 40 tickets stolen by a passing man, with a total value of approximately NT$8,000. A vigilant citizen immediately intervened to stop the suspect, and police arrived on the scene to swiftly arrest the 70-year-old man surnamed Jian, who was subsequently prosecuted.

At around 6 p.m. last night, the Wanhua District Police Department's Ximending Police Station received a report of a theft on Chengdu Road and immediately dispatched officers to investigate.

According to the investigation, the suspect, Mr. Jian in his 70s, noticed the victim's physical disability and took advantage of his inattention to steal 40 lottery tickets. As he attempted to flee, a concerned citizen intervened and stopped him. Police arrived shortly after and apprehended Jian at the scene with the stolen goods. He was arrested on suspicion of theft and transferred to the Taipei District Prosecutors Office for prosecution.

The Wanhua分局 reminds the public not to commit serious offenses out of momentary greed. The police emphasize that all illegal acts will be strictly punished according to law, with no leniency, and will continue to strengthen patrols to maintain public safety in the district.
