AFP reports that Venezuela was hit by two powerful earthquakes of magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5, less than a minute apart, on June 24. The coastal state of La Guaira suffered severe damage.

According to the latest statistics released today by Jorge Rodriguez, President of Venezuela's National Assembly, via the messaging app Telegram, the disaster has caused 4,734 deaths and 16,740 injuries, with most of the injured having already been discharged from hospitals.
