(Central News Agency reporter Wu Jui-chi, Taoyuan, April 14) Lee Wei-Hua, Chair of the Central Evaluation Committee of the Taiwan People's Party, led a delegation to Shanghai today, launching a four-day, three-night visit. Lee stated that this marks the party's first official group exchange mission to mainland China since its establishment, expressing hope to foster goodwill through exchanges and replace confrontation with dialogue.

In the morning, Lee departed with three party staff members and five members of the Taiwan People's Party Youth Corps for Shanghai to begin the four-day, three-night visit.

At the departure hall of Terminal 2 at Taoyuan International Airport, Lee told reporters that amid current cross-strait and international developments, communication must be maintained especially during times of divergence. The Taiwan People's Party advocates "Taiwan's autonomy and cross-strait peace," and bears the responsibility to seek a stable, pragmatic path that reduces the risk of war. Citing founding party chair Ko Wen-je's position, Lee expressed hope that both sides can promote exchanges through goodwill, reduce misunderstandings through contact, and deepen understanding through dialogue, gradually building a long-term, stable, and peaceful relationship.

Lee emphasized that the party supports cross-strait exchanges based on maintaining Taiwan's democratic political system and way of life, promoting communication on an equal footing. The principles guiding such exchanges are "mutual recognition, mutual understanding, mutual respect, mutual cooperation, and mutual accommodation." Given the different political systems and socioeconomic development backgrounds across the strait, peace requires continuous effort and dialogue. Lee cited Ko Wen-je's tenure as Taipei mayor, during which the Taipei-Shanghai City Forum was held, as a successful example of achieving mutual understanding through dialogue.

This trip includes visits to key economic developments, historical sites, technology enterprises, and youth entrepreneurship hubs in Shanghai. The delegation will also hold discussions with local youth at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Youth exchange is a key focus of this visit. Lee hopes that through mutual recognition, questioning, and understanding, the younger generation can jointly accumulate more goodwill and trust across the strait, and explore greater possibilities for peace.
