(Central News Agency reporter Ho Hsiu-ling, Taipei, 14th) The controversy over Zhonglian Oils' soybean salad oil being found to contain excessive levels of benzo(a)pyrene (BaP), a Group 1 carcinogen, continues to escalate. Today, Taisun Chairman Liu Wei-long issued a public statement announcing the complete suspension of sales for all soybean salad oil-related products until each batch is independently verified safe by a third-party testing agency. Additionally, the company pledged a donation of NT$30 million to support professional institutions in enhancing Taiwan's food safety testing capacity.

In an evening statement, Liu Wei-long first apologized to consumers and the general public. He emphasized that food safety is the most important responsibility for any enterprise, and that bearing the Taisun brand represents a commitment to consumers. The company will continue to cooperate fully with regulatory and judicial authorities and respect the final investigation outcomes.

He stated that Taisun will strictly adhere to any future regulatory guidelines for product relisting. Sales of soybean salad oil-related products will remain fully suspended until every batch is confirmed safe by a credible, independent third-party testing body. He stressed, 'We would rather abandon the market than let consumers bear any risk.'

Liu also noted that food safety requires not only corporate self-management but also industry-wide improvements in testing capacity. Therefore, Taisun commits to donating NT$30 million to help upgrade domestic food safety testing equipment and personnel. The funds will be managed by a professional, credible, and qualified institution designated by the regulatory authority. The implementation method and partner organizations will be announced after consultation with the authorities.

Regarding recent public discussions on Taisun's equity structure and corporate governance, Liu stated that Zhonglian Oils has been independently operated by professional managers since its inception, in compliance with regulations. Taisun will not allow its corporate governance to be affected by changes in equity structure, nor will it tolerate any actions that violate laws or governance standards.

Zhonglian Oils was established in 1995 through joint investment by three domestic oil producers: Fushou, Fumao Oils, and Taisun. (Editor: Lin Chia-hsien) 1150714
