A homicide occurred today at a musical instrument store in Hsinchu City. A 43-year-old American national surnamed Lin attacked and fatally stabbed his brother-in-law, Mr. Chi, the store's manager. Police reported that Lin was armed with a knife and confronted officers, while ten others remained trapped inside the building. Authorities legally used police equipment to subdue and arrest the suspect, who has now been prosecuted on suspicion of murder.
According to a press release from the Hsinchu City Police Department, officers from the Second Precinct received a report at approximately 2:46 p.m. today about a knife attack at a store on Sanmin Road. Upon arrival, they found the manager, Mr. Chi, lying in a pool of blood. Lin remained inside, brandishing a knife and refusing to surrender.
Police stated that Mr. Chi required urgent medical attention and that six adults and four children were trapped inside, posing a serious safety risk. Under urgent circumstances, officers lawfully used police equipment to subdue and arrest Lin.
Emergency medical personnel later entered the scene and confirmed that Mr. Chi had no vital signs. Lin was taken into police custody and transported to a hospital for treatment. Mr. Chi's body was transferred to the Hsinchu City Memorial Park, where the Hsinchu prosecutor completed an autopsy tonight. However, the prosecution has not yet disclosed details of the case.
Local sources told the Central News Agency that Lin is an American national and a professor at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, while Mr. Chi operated the musical instrument store in Hsinchu. Lin's wife is the elder sister of Mr. Chi's wife. Police confirmed the familial relationship between the two men.
