(Central News Agency, Washington, 13th – comprehensive international report) According to the latest financial disclosure filed by former U.S. President Donald Trump, he and his two sons have continuously encouraged investors to put money into cryptocurrency, causing retail investors to suffer huge losses, while his asset managers redirected the majority of cryptocurrency profits into safer stock and bond markets.
Reuters reported that according to Trump's latest financial disclosure submitted to the U.S. Office of Government Ethics, he earned over $1.4 billion (approximately NT$45 billion) in profits last year from his family's cryptocurrency ventures, including 'World Liberty Financial' and the $TRUMP meme coin.
Reuters analyzed Trump's asset allocation over the past two years and found that funds gained from cryptocurrency have massively flowed into stocks and bonds, with the overall capital size growing at least fourfold. At the end of 2024, the market value of Trump's traditional stock and bond holdings was only between $225 million and $608 million (approximately NT$7.1 billion to NT$19.2 billion). By the end of last year, this had risen to between $703 million and $2.6 billion (approximately NT$22.2 billion to NT$82.2 billion).
Since the disclosure documents only list asset values in ranges rather than exact figures, Reuters could not precisely determine how much of Trump's cryptocurrency profits were allocated to lower-risk assets.
Although Trump still holds some cryptocurrency, all nine digital asset experts who reviewed Reuters' analysis stated that his financial activities indicate he does not trust cryptocurrency as a primary means of storing personal wealth.
Timothy Massad, Director of the Digital Asset Policy Program at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government, said, 'Although Trump claims digital assets are the future of finance and vows to make America the cryptocurrency capital, this asset disclosure reveals his personal strategy is to quickly profit from the $TRUMP meme coin and World Liberty Financial tokens, then reinvest those gains into traditional stock and bond markets.'
Last month, Reuters reported that, as of April this year, retail investors who invested in four major cryptocurrency projects endorsed by Trump had lost up to $2.3 billion (approximately NT$74 billion).
However, Trump's disclosure documents show he still holds a large amount of virtual currency issued by World Liberty Financial, and his overall exposure to cryptocurrency investments has increased.
The disclosure indicates that the company owned by Trump, which manages his profits from World Liberty Financial and the $TRUMP meme coin, held at least $160 million (approximately NT$5.1 billion) worth of Bitcoin and Ethereum at the end of last year, along with up to $6 million (approximately NT$190 million) in other cryptocurrencies—significantly more than the $1 million to $5 million (approximately NT$32 million to NT$160 million) in Ethereum holdings reported at the end of 2024.
A spokesperson for the Trump family business said in a statement, 'The president's financial disclosure demonstrates that the Trump Organization continues to maintain a sound financial position, backed by world-class high-quality assets, ample liquidity, and a conservative balance sheet.' However, they did not comment on why Trump redirected cryptocurrency profits into traditional financial assets such as stocks and bonds. (Translation: Chang Ming-Hsuan) 1150714
