Key News on U.S.-Iran Conflict
(Tehran, Central News Agency, 15th) Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced today that the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until the United States stops its 'aggressive actions,' and warned that other regional oil export routes could also become targets.
According to AFP, a statement broadcast by Iran's Islamic Republic Broadcasting (IRIB) said that the IRGC launched attacks on U.S. military facilities in Bahrain and Kuwait following U.S. airstrikes on Iranian territory.
The statement said: 'The enemy should understand that since their maritime aggressors have blocked Indian Ocean routes for global oil and gas exports—thereby endangering the interests of U.S. economic competitors—they should also expect that other oil and gas export routes serving U.S. and allied interests will face the threat of closure.'
The statement did not specify which routes might be affected.
They also stated: 'Either all benefit from Middle Eastern oil and gas exports, or none will have access.'
In another statement, the IRGC said: 'The fighters' retaliatory operations will continue. The Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until the United States stops its aggressive actions.'
U.S. officials have previously dismissed Iran's claim of being able to control navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, insisting that international shipping lanes remain open. (Translation: Lu Ying-zi) 1150715
