(Central News Agency, Taipei, 15th) Taiwan's stock market opened higher and continued to climb throughout the day, closing up 893.64 points at 45,631.59, a 2% increase, with a trading value of NT$984.08 billion.

The weighted index opened at 44,850.69 points, reaching a high of 45,881.91 and a low of 44,850.69 during the session. The non-financial index closed at 41,043.99 points, up 858 points.

Performance of the eight major sectors: Cement and ceramics stocks rose 2.26%, food stocks up 0.60%, petrochemical stocks up 5.73%, textile stocks up 1.34%, machinery and electronics stocks up 2%, paper stocks up 2.67%, construction stocks up 1.72%, and financial stocks up 0.38%.

Buy orders totaled 20,259,601 shares, sell orders 13,271,459 shares, with 10,308,349 shares traded.

At closing, 916 stocks rose, 132 declined, and 57 remained unchanged.

The top five stocks by trading volume were Innolux, President Chain Store, KGI Taiwan Weighted Index Bull 2X, AU Optronics, and Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing.

The top five gainers were Zenith Polymer, Pharmason Biologics, Crown Point Electronics, Tung Mao Plastics, and Tung Liang Industrial.

The top five losers were PacifiCorp, Hwa Kuang Biotech, Tian Er Technology, Sunny Optical, and Largan Precision. 1150715
