Central News Agency Report
(CNA reporter Tsao Ya-yen, New Taipei, July 15) A female social worker entrusted with caring for a protected individual in Banqiao District, New Taipei City, repeatedly withdrew over NT$587,000 from the client's bank account using their financial card. The unauthorized withdrawals were discovered only after the social worker resigned and the client reissued their passbook and card. The New Taipei District Prosecutors' Office has indicted the woman on charges of breach of trust and related offenses.
According to the indictment, the woman, surnamed Yeh, began working as a social worker for a social welfare association in Taoyuan in February 2022. From July 2023 to May 2025, she was responsible for supporting a client placed under protective custody in Banqiao, New Taipei City, by the Family Violence Prevention Center, and was entrusted with the client's bankbook and financial card.
During this period, Yeh exploited her custodial role to withdraw cash from the client's account without consent, depositing the funds for personal use. Between February 2024 and March 2025, she illegally withdrew a total of NT$587,000.
After Yeh resigned in May 2024, the client discovered the missing funds while reissuing their bank documents and reported the incident to the police. Yeh admitted to the crime during the investigation. Prosecutors charged her under provisions of the Criminal Code for obtaining property from automated payment devices by improper means and for breach of trust. (Editor: Lee Heng-shan) 1150715
