According to Central News Agency (CNA), on the afternoon of the 16th, TSMC is scheduled to hold its corporate briefing, causing its share price to trade in a narrow range. After Wednesday’s 893-point surge failed to reclaim the monthly moving average, the Taiwan Stock Exchange Index retreated today to test support at 45,000 points, hitting a low of 44,970.64, down 660.95 points. However, intraday buying at lower levels helped narrow the decline.
At around 10:35 a.m., the weighted index stood at 45,461 points, down 170 points, or 0.37%, with turnover reaching NT$465.4 billion.
Among major weighted stocks, TSMC dipped to 2,420 TWD, down 20 TWD, but recovered to hover around the flat line at 2,440 TWD by midday. Delta Electronics fell 70 TWD to 1,820 TWD but later rebounded to 1,900 TWD. Foxconn showed relative strength, rising to a high of 244 TWD, up 2.09%.
With signs of recovery in the bicycle industry during the first half of the year and brand clients resuming orders, the two leading bicycle makers, Giant and Merida, surged to their daily trading limits at 88 TWD and 84.2 TWD, respectively.
Terahertz technology firm Suncomm Technology, a low-orbit satellite component supplier, announced its board's decision on the 15th to acquire shares in Giantcom Technology, aiming to create synergies by entering the AI data center supply chain. Following the announcement, Suncomm Technology surged to its daily limit at 1,310 TWD.
Conversely, memory-related stocks faced profit-taking. Winbond Electronics dropped over 3% to 171 TWD, Nanya Technology fell over 6% to 452 TWD, and Macronix International traded at 139 TWD, down 6.4%.
