(Central News Agency, Washington, May 5 -综合 international news) Former US President Donald Trump accused China of inciting a rising wave of opposition across the United States against artificial intelligence (AI) data centers, claiming that Beijing is doing so because the US holds a leading position in the global AI race.
According to the South China Morning Post, Trump made these remarks amid a surge of nationwide resistance to AI data centers, causing delays or disruptions to investment plans worth tens of billions of dollars.
Opposition groups held 142 protest events across 42 US states on July 18, demonstrating dissatisfaction with the rapid expansion of AI infrastructure.
Trump said in a Fox News interview yesterday in California: "A large part of it is China."
He added: "Listen, whoever wins the AI race will dominate the AI field. It's more important than the internet, possibly more significant than anything that has happened in the past few hundred years."
Trump claimed that China is actively encouraging American citizens to resist new AI infrastructure.
He pointed out: "There are communities giving us trouble, and many people believe it's China behind it. You know China doesn't want these... they're spending a lot of money promoting 'don't... you know, don't build them' because we're beating China in AI."
Trump also described AI data centers as "amazing things" and emphasized the significant economic benefits these facilities bring.
He warned that communities rejecting such projects are "making a big mistake."
The United States leads the world in the number of data centers, surpassing Germany, the UK, and France, and has approximately ten times as many as China. (Translation: Chen Yanjun) 1150805
