Amid rising temperatures, the National Fire Agency (NFA) announced today that it is actively investigating the budgeting and actual usage of electricity and water expenses over the past three years at fire departments across all counties and cities. The goal is to ensure adequate utility funding and improve standby working conditions for firefighters.
The NFA emphasized that firefighting duties operate around the clock, differing significantly from standard 9-to-5 government offices. To better understand the operational realities of individual fire stations, the agency has formally requested local fire departments to report on their utility budget allocations and expenditures, identifying any instances where funding may be insufficient.
Simultaneously, the NFA is assessing facility improvement needs within fire stations nationwide. Local occupational safety and health support teams are conducting comprehensive inspections to identify issues related to environmental safety, hygiene, dormitory conditions, air conditioning systems, and garage ventilation.
The findings will inform future budget proposals aimed at upgrading station facilities and enhancing the overall quality of the working environment for firefighters.
Additionally, under its 2026 and 2027 fiscal programs, the NFA is subsidizing the installation of decontamination facilities in fire stations nationwide. This includes the procurement of progressive alarm and lighting systems and garage exhaust fans—measures designed to improve occupational safety and hygiene.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to working collaboratively with local governments to progressively create safer, healthier, and more efficient workplaces for all firefighters across Taiwan.
