Chunghwa Telecom today announced the signing of a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Nokia on AI-RAN (Artificial Intelligence and Radio Access Network). Chunghwa Telecom CEO Lin Jung-Tsai stated that AI is rapidly driving global telecommunications network technology development, and AI-RAN has become one of the key directions in the international industry. The two companies will work together to advance next-generation mobile networks by jointly validating and researching AI-RAN technologies.
Chunghwa Telecom announced today that it has signed a strategic MoU with Nokia on AI-RAN (Artificial Intelligence and Radio Access Network). Both parties will jointly explore the integration of mobile networks and artificial intelligence technologies, conducting collaborative research on AI-RAN technology development, laboratory and field validation, AI computing architecture and platform technologies, and the evolution of next-generation mobile networks.
Lin Jung-Tsai stated that AI is rapidly accelerating the development of global telecom network technologies, and AI-RAN has become one of the major international industry trends. This collaboration will follow the principles of openness, practicality, and validation-driven approaches, jointly researching and validating AI-RAN-related technologies, AI computing platforms, network architecture evolution, and potential Edge-Inference application scenarios. The partnership will evaluate the impact on network performance, operational efficiency, and the feasibility of future service development, while continuously monitoring international standards and industry trends as a key reference for Chunghwa Telecom’s future network evolution.
Chunghwa Telecom Network Division General Manager Chia Chung-Yung pointed out that AI is accelerating changes in the global communications industry. Future networks must not only enhance transmission performance but also possess intelligent, automated, and programmable capabilities. Through technical exchanges and POC validation with Nokia, the company aims to gain deeper insights into AI-RAN technology trends, assess the feasibility and applicability of different AI computing architectures, deployment models, and application scenarios, and accumulate the technical capabilities required for the evolution of 5G-Advanced and 6G networks.
Nokia Taiwan CEO Hsu Chia-Shu emphasized that AI-RAN is a milestone in mobile network evolution and a key technology for advancing from 5G-Advanced to Pre-6G and eventually 6G. The two companies will jointly validate the feasibility of AI-RAN technology, explore innovative application scenarios, and uncover future business opportunities.
