Bus Carrying 40 Chinese Workers Overturns in Russia, Leaving 2 Dead and at least 10 Injured

According to reports from Xinhua News Agency, Inner Mongolia Daily, and Jimu News, the Chinese Consulate General in Irkutsk reported that a bus carrying over 40 Chinese citizens overturned for unknown reasons shortly after entering the Zabaykalsky Krai in Russia from Manzhouli. Its destination was Chita, the capital of the Krai. The accident caused one death on the spot, and another person died after being sent to the hospital.

Sources revealed that the bus was mostly carrying migrant workers heading to Russia for work. The regular bus service departs from China every Monday and returns from Russia every Wednesday. However, the bus involved in the accident was an extra chartered vehicle.

Regarding the official response, reports indicated that after the Inner Mongolia authorities received the accident report, Wang Weizhong, Secretary of the CPC Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Committee, gave instructions to promptly rescue the injured, comfort the families of the deceased, investigate the cause of the accident, and handle the aftermath properly. Subsequently, Bao Gang, Chairman of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, rushed to Manzhouli City to direct the work of bringing the injured back to the country for treatment and managing the aftermath.
