The National Park Service of the Ministry of the Interior today signed a "Memorandum of Understanding for Building a Sustainable Conservation Cross-Domain Action, Emergency Rescue, and Ecological Conservation Action Network" with Taipei Veterans General Hospital and issued a press release to explain the matter.
Zhang Weiquan, Deputy Director of the National Park Service, stated that this cooperation not only strengthens cross-border exchanges in conservation and health but also, in response to Taipei Veterans General Hospital's critical position in Taiwan's medical system and its geographical advantage of being adjacent to Yangmingshan National Park, elevates the level of cooperation from environmental education and promotion to substantial "emergency medical rescue support."
Zhang Weiquan pointed out that Taipei Veterans General Hospital, as a national medical center, possesses a complete critical and severe illness medical system and professional medical team, occupying a pivotal and indicative position in Taiwan's medical network, and is a leader in Taiwan's geriatric medicine and long-term care services. Through Taipei VGH's excellent medical capabilities, both parties will establish a priority referral mechanism and cross-agency cooperation model, providing the strongest safety backing for the public participating in outdoor activities.
Chen Weiming, Superintendent of Taipei Veterans General Hospital, stated that national parks are Taiwan's biggest highlight, and this cooperation with the National Park Service is a comprehensive and cross-disciplinary important milestone. It not only combines medical expertise with natural environment resource conservation but also opens up more possibilities for future health promotion and sustainable development.
Regarding future cooperation methods, Chen Weiming explained that Taipei Veterans General Hospital has a complete medical support system. In the future, if there is an emergency medical need in national park areas, immediate professional support can be provided through remote video conferencing to strengthen safety guarantees.
Zhang Weiquan said that during large events or periods of high tourist numbers in national parks, Taipei VGH can provide substantial medical and nursing staff support and set up temporary aid stations, jointly building a high-quality "safe medical rescue network."
The National Park Service explained that it will utilize the public broadcasting systems, such as TV walls, of Taipei VGH, and Taichung, Kaohsiung, Pingtung VGHs and their 12 branches and sub-institutions, to broadcast 17 sustainable conservation themed videos and policy information, including national parks, wetlands, and coasts. This will bring images of Taiwan's natural beauty, "great mountains and seas," into medical settings, providing spiritual comfort to patients, long-term caregivers, and their families, and alleviating the tension during medical treatment and care.
