NCUE's 'Baisha Summer School' Promotes Intergenerational Teaching and Learning Through 'Three-Teacher' Program

The Ministry of Education issued a press release today stating that National Changhua University of Education's (NCUE) Teacher Education USR project, centered on 'Care, Practice, and Mutual Good,' is dedicated to building a multi-faceted local education support and protection network. Since its inception, the project has gradually penetrated secondary, midway, and correctional schools, empowering frontline educators and deepening the professional mission of student teachers.

NCUE's unique 'Baisha Summer School' simulated school administration program involved 55 student teachers from NCUE going to Xizhou Junior High School, Dacun Junior High School, and Xinyi Junior and Elementary School in Changhua County. They took on roles such as principal, department heads, and homeroom teachers to run the two-week 'Baisha Summer School' simulated school operations.

The Ministry of Education stated that student teachers put their learning into practice at the front of the classroom, while in-service teachers observed from the back and provided feedback. University professors participated in discussions and guidance from the perspective of curriculum design and teaching theory. Through this interaction, student teachers gradually develop their teaching abilities, secondary school teachers re-examine their teaching experience, and university professors deepen their teacher education philosophy, forming a cross-field, intergenerational partnership among the three types of teachers.

NCUE Professor Liu Shih-hsiung mentioned that teacher education truly begins when student teachers stand on the podium and start thinking about why students can't learn. These observations and feedback from the classroom are often the most impressive and meaningful learning experiences for student teachers.

The Ministry of Education pointed out that it hopes through the Teacher Education USR project to encourage more teacher education universities to invest in local education and deepen their connection with the teaching field. Through the joint efforts of student teachers, in-service teachers, and university professors, they can innovate teaching models, solve practical problems in the educational field, enhance overall teaching quality, and inject a continuous stream of new momentum into Taiwan's education.
