Danshui River Bridge Engineering Visit on 17th, Civil Affairs Bureau: Unregistered Public Can Also Go Onto Bridge

(Central News Agency reporters Tsao Ya-yen, Huang Hsu-sheng, New Taipei, 17th) The Danshui River Bridge held an engineering visit event this afternoon, but some village chiefs complained about confusing event information, leaving the general public unsure if they could go onto the bridge. The New Taipei City Government's Civil Affairs Bureau emphasized that there are no restrictions that only registered groups can go onto the bridge, and welcomes the general public to witness it together.

The Danshui River Bridge is scheduled to open in May, with a series of visits and celebration events to follow. The first engineering visit was held this afternoon. However, Wu Ting-yueh, the village chief of Kanting Village in Tamsui District, posted on Facebook that he received many complaints from villagers that the engineering visit information was confusing, and the general public did not know if they could go onto the bridge. The district office initially stated that it was not open to the general public, only to groups and volunteer cadres, totaling about 5,000 people, but Mayor Hou Yu-ih said he would prepare 20,000 commemorative cards for participating citizens, which caused confusion.

The New Taipei City Civil Affairs Bureau responded to a Central News Agency phone interview, stating that today's event plan was for residents of Tamsui and Bali to successively go onto the bridge in batches starting at 2 PM. Subsequently, under safe conditions, "the general public can go onto the bridge for visits according to on-site regulations."

The Civil Affairs Bureau added that the previous registration process by the district office was for actively inviting and counting the number of local community groups and volunteers, aiming to prepare shuttle services and guidance. The event did not restrict only registered groups from going onto the bridge, and welcomes the general public to witness it together.

Earlier, Civil Affairs Bureau Director Lin Yao-chang reported at the municipal meeting that the "Tamsui Bali. Bridge Meets Future" walking event held on the 17th was open for 5,000 registered participants, and the "Good Friends Come to See the Bridge" hiking event on the 25th also adopted a registration method.

Hou Yu-ih then asked if there were restrictions that unregistered participants could not attend the event; Lin Yao-chang replied that there were no restrictions on unregistered fellow citizens, mainly involving the quantity and production time of commemorative gifts, which led to registration quotas.

Hou Yu-ih said that the Danshui River Bridge is an international landmark, and the event on the 17th is the first preview walk, estimated to attract 2 to 3 times the number of people.
