3-Day Traffic Enforcement in Taitung East Rift Valley: Guanshan Police Target Speeding and Drunk Driving

(CNA Reporter Lu Tai-cheng, Taitung, April 24th) The Guanshan Police District of the Taitung County Police Bureau is implementing a major traffic enforcement operation in the East Rift Valley from the 24th to the 26th. The focus will be on cracking down on drunk driving, speeding, and failing to yield as required.

Zhang Jia-yuan, head of the traffic section at Guanshan Police District, told CNA today that the district has launched a three-day "Traffic Enforcement" project starting from the 24th. Targeting accident-prone road sections, time slots, and violation hotspots in the East Rift Valley, the police have planned precision enforcement duties to comprehensively strengthen the crackdown on various traffic violations, demonstrating their determination to maintain traffic order.

He stated that according to recent statistical analysis of traffic accidents, most incidents are closely related to violations such as speeding, failing to yield, drunk driving, and failing to pay attention to conditions ahead. This project will lock onto these high-risk violation items and combine mobile patrols with fixed-point inspections to increase police visibility and inspection density, leaving violations nowhere to hide.

Zhang Jia-yuan mentioned that at the same time, patrols and enforcement will be strengthened during high-accident periods such as early morning and nighttime to effectively deter dangerous driving behaviors.

He emphasized that the ultimate goal of traffic enforcement is not to issue fines but to hope that through strict enforcement and active promotion, the public will develop good road use habits. He calls on all drivers not to take chances and to always obey traffic rules, especially to slow down at intersections, pay attention to pedestrians, and properly wear helmets and fasten seat belts to jointly create a safe and friendly traffic environment.
