As Taiwan''s New Southbound Policy continues to deepen in the agricultural sector, the 8th ''Indonesian Young Farmers Internship Program in Taiwan'' officially commenced today. Fifty young farmers, strictly selected by the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture, departed from Jakarta''s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport for Taiwan. This program stems from a 2019 agreement between the two governments to promote talent exchange. According to the Representative Office in Indonesia, these 50 participants will be assigned to high-quality farms throughout Taiwan for a one-year ''learning by doing'' training period, covering fields such as fruit trees, vegetable seedlings, flowers, and aquaculture.
One participant, Tia, expressed her excitement for her first trip abroad after completing pre-departure training and basic Mandarin studies. She looks forward to experiencing Taiwan''s agricultural management and leisure farming models to aid Indonesia''s agricultural transformation. Statistics show that 395 young farmers have completed the program to date, with 80% remaining in agricultural fields. Success stories include alumni publishing international papers, winning scholarships for overseas degrees, becoming suppliers for fast-food chains, or working as technical managers for Taiwanese enterprises in Indonesia. Indonesian official Wiweko emphasized that food security is a key policy and that Taiwan''s top technology will provide international perspectives and vitality to Indonesian rural areas.
