Taichung Mazu Cultural Festival: Shekou Wanxing Temple Hosts Over Hundred Tables to Celebrate

(Central News Agency reporter Zhao Liyan, Taichung, 7th) The "2026 Taichung Mazu International Tourism and Culture Festival" opened tonight at Shekou Wanxing Temple, with over a hundred tables set. Mayor Lu Shiow-yen presented a plaque inscribed "Virtue and Grace Bless All," thanking the temple for assisting in promoting cultural and artistic performances, and demonstrating the charm of religious culture by combining Mazu culture with tourism energy.

The "2026 Taichung Mazu International Tourism and Culture Festival" commenced in the evening at Shekou Wanxing Temple in Shengang District, with various art groups performing in rotation. Mayor Lu Shiow-yen, Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Yuan Chiang Chi-chen, Kuomintang Legislator Yang Chiung-ying, and several local representatives attended. A total of 148 tables were set, and many temples participated, making the event very lively.

Mayor Lu Shiow-yen stated in her speech that the 23rd day of the third lunar month is Mazu's birthday, and this Sunday also coincides with Mother's Day, wishing everyone "Happy Mother's Day." She then drew a red envelope containing NT$6,600, which was won by an event staff member. Lu Shiow-yen exclaimed, "Mazu is fair."

Director of Civil Affairs Bureau Wu Shih-wei explained the origin of Shekou Wanxing Temple, which can be traced back to the Dajia Xishe Incident in the 9th year of Emperor Yongzheng of the Qing Dynasty. At that time, General Pan Tun-tzu and Chief Interpreter Chang Ta-ching were rewarded by Emperor Yongzheng for their meritorious service in quelling the rebellion. When they returned to Taiwan via Meizhou, they respectfully invited the divine spirit of the Heavenly Holy Mother to Taiwan for worship.
