Fenglin Township in Hualien County announced that each resident will receive NT$3,000 in economic stimulus vouchers due to the flood damage caused by the Mataian Stream landslide lake. The distribution is expected to commence in August. Fenglin Township Mayor Lin Jian-ping stated that many residents suffered property damage and endured dust from repair and dredging works. Given that neighboring townships also provided stimulus payments, a proposal was made to issue vouchers. The 'Mataian Stream Landslide Post-Disaster Economic Stimulus Voucher Distribution Self-Governance Ordinance' was unanimously approved by the township representative assembly. Initially proposed at NT$2,000 per person by the township office, the representative assembly amended it to NT$3,000 to provide a more significant impact and include more residents. The baseline date for residency was also extended by one month. The ordinance will be submitted to the Hualien County Government for record and will be funded through supplementary budgets. With a population of approximately 10,000, the total estimated distribution amount exceeds NT$30 million. Vouchers will be distributed on a household basis, with notification letters sent to household heads who will then collect them on behalf of their family members at local community offices.
