French prosecutors have opened an investigation into social media platform X for potential illegal activities, including alleged interference in French politics. The investigation has since expanded to cover allegations of distributing child sexual abuse material, deepfake pornography, and Holocaust denial. In response to the latest phase of the investigation, X owner Elon Musk posted a comment in French that was widely criticized as offensive. The French LGBTQ+ advocacy group 'Stop Homophobie' has filed a lawsuit against Musk for public insult based on sexual orientation or gender identity. Former X CEO Linda Yaccarino is also being investigated. Both Musk and Yaccarino reportedly did not appear for informal questioning. In February, French authorities raided X's Paris office, after which Musk insulted French judicial officials. X has denied any wrongdoing and accused French authorities of political motivation.
