(Central News Agency reporter Hsiao Po-yang, Nantou County, 12th exclusive report) The Puli Township Cleaning Team's office was old and lacked air conditioning, making summer work feel like being in an oven for team members. This year, the cleaning team launched a renovation project. After purchasing building materials, team members with skills in ironwork, masonry, and plumbing constructed a brand new office equipped with air conditioning and a water dispenser.

The Puli Township Cleaning Team in Nantou County had been using a discarded community watch post as its office for over 20 years. It was old, cluttered, and had no air conditioning, causing team members to suffer during summer shifts. Captain Chen Chun-hung stated that the original plan was to use a container house for renovation, but faced issues such as insufficient space and higher costs. Fortunately, several team members possessed professional skills in ironwork, masonry, formwork, and plumbing. After purchasing building materials, the team members carried out the construction themselves. The office, originally planned to cost NT$350,000, was completed for less than NT$200,000.

The office was inaugurated today. Puli Township Mayor Liao Chih-cheng and team members devoutly prayed for smooth operations and prompt removal of accumulated waste. Team members said that the old office could not block wind or rain, was abnormally stuffy in summer, and even for drinking water, they had to go to the main office for a water dispenser. Now, the new office has air conditioning and a water dispenser, allowing team members to quench their thirst, cool down, and reduce exposure to the smell of garbage, which they find very thoughtful.

Liao Chih-cheng said that the cleaning team's waste transfer station had poor environmental conditions due to a large amount of accumulated waste, and the office was also very dilapidated. After the skillful renovation by team members, it has been completely renewed, with air conditioning and a water dispenser installed indoors. He thanked Captain Chen Chun-hung for his concern about improving the environment before his retirement. Cleaning team members have long worked in an environment with large amounts of accumulated waste, enduring dirt and foul odors. He hopes that the accumulated waste will be cleared as soon as possible and appeals to the public to reduce waste and recycle, which is the greatest gratitude to the cleaning team members.

The Puli Township Cleaning Team also stated that the cleaning team's waste transfer station has been in operation for over 20 years, and many facilities are old. The ground has been uneven and pitted from years of heavy vehicle traffic, making it muddy and difficult to navigate in the rain. To improve the environment and safety management of the transfer station, the Environmental Management Administration of the Ministry of Environment subsidized improvement funds, totaling NT$32 million with the township office's self-funded portion. The renovation, including repaving the concrete ground of the transfer station, installing new fences around it, and an electric rolling gate at the entrance, was completed successively by the end of last year.
