Representatives Criticize Passive Investigation into Dadu Illegal Soil Dumping; Prosecutors Say Suspects Detained

Taichung City councilors criticized the local government and prosecutors for their passive attitude toward an illegal dumping case in Dadu District. A plot of land was buried under a 5-story-high pile of waste soil by an illegal syndicate, with cleanup costs estimated at NT$138 million. The councilors noted that after nearly two years, the mastermind remains at large. In response, the Taichung District Prosecutors Office stated that a task force has been formed. Following investigations into financial flows and communications, they have conducted two rounds of searches and successfully detained the director and manager of the involved land development company. They emphasized that the investigation is actively ongoing.
