Regarding the KMT's nomination of Wei Ping-cheng for the 2026 Changhua County Magistrate election, speculation arose whether Legislator Hsieh Yi-fong would run independently. Wei stated he believed Hsieh's deep affection for the KMT would prevent her from leaving. On May 15, Hsieh responded firmly that Wei, who had previously left the party himself, has no right to answer on her behalf. She emphasized that Wei is not her family and urged him and the KMT central committee to focus on appeasing disgruntled supporters upset by the internal nomination process.
