Taipei, May 13 (CNA) - Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Chairman Lai Ching-te announced today the party's decision to nominate Legislator Shen Po-yang to run for Taipei Mayor. Incumbent Mayor Chiang Wan-an, who is seeking re-election, told reporters that he is focused on daily city affairs and will continue to work step by step for the welfare of all citizens.
Before inspecting the high-altitude water supply project in Xishanli, Shilin District, Chiang responded to media inquiries regarding the DPP's nomination of Shen Po-yang. Chiang reiterated his dedication to focusing on municipal governance and diligently working for the welfare of all citizens, addressing their needs and providing the best care.
He mentioned his visit to Xishanli to inspect the progress of the water supply project, noting that a water quality incident causing diarrhea clusters occurred in the area in 2024. Chiang expressed surprise that residents in a metropolitan area like Taipei still lacked access to tap water. He stated that he immediately approved the project, allocating NT$420 million to ensure a stable and safe water supply.
The Taipei Water Department reported that the project involves installing over 30,000 meters of new high-altitude mountain pipelines, along with five pumping stations and ten distribution tanks. The project is expected to be completed and operational by the end of October, supplying tap water to over 470 households in Xishanli and Pingdengli. (Editor: Chen Ching-fang) May 13, 2024.
