Legislator Wang Mei-hui has successfully secured NT$240 million in central government subsidies for flood control and drainage infrastructure in Chiayi City. A total of six new construction projects have been approved for this year, with a total budget of NT$296 million. These projects include the installation of additional pumping stations, diversion of rainwater via box culverts, and the renovation of detention ponds. The funding aims to strengthen Chiayi City's overall flood resilience in response to climate change and extreme weather events. Recently, National Land Agency Director-General Tsai Chang-chan visited Chiayi City to assess drainage improvement plans, particularly focusing on the Houhu pumping station area. The upgrades will involve enhancing the Houhu pumping station, which is 15 years old, and improving rainwater drainage systems, smart monitoring, and diversion projects to mitigate urban flooding caused by short-duration heavy rainfall.
