Student Accuses University of Misusing Identity for Subsidies; Ministry to Investigate

A student from Chungyo University of Technology posted on social media alleging that their identity was misused by the school to apply for subsidies, and they were subsequently asked to return the funds. The Ministry of Education announced today that it will conduct a special investigation at Chungyo University of Technology. The student from Chungyo University of Technology (located in Keelung City) posted that they recently received a scholarship of nearly NT$100,000 related to a study tour, without prior knowledge. After inquiring with the school, the student learned that the school had used their low-income status to apply for subsidies from the Ministry of Education under the name of a Korean study tour group, and later asked them to transfer the funds back to a designated account. The post sparked discussion online, with many netizens speculating that the school used low-income students as fronts to apply for government subsidies. In response, the Ministry of Education issued a brief statement this afternoon, stating that it will conduct a special investigation at the school to verify the application methods and related procedures for student subsidies (including overseas exchange subsidies) and will supervise a comprehensive review of relevant operational procedures.
